Fall of usher's house Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Fall of usher's house - Essay Example Readers are made to perceive the personality and the deteriorating mental condition of Usher through the narrator’s eyes. The fall of the House of Usher is a story in which the narrator exercises an immense control over readers. The narrator never even by chance drops in irrelevant or loose facts that may be used by readers to construct a parallel understanding of their own. Right from the very start, the narrator constructs an image of Usher, which appears to the unsuspecting readers as utterly strange and spooky. In fact, the narrator goes on to build on these personality attributes of Usher, by conveying a personal understanding of him, through the spectacles of his childhood recollections. The whole idea is to highlight the utter ominous nature of the house of Usher and Usher’s mysterious relation to this rotting and isolated property. Instead of extending to readers a guided tour through the narrative, the narrator rather makes them a partner in his own personal st ock of fears and apprehensions, as he says, â€Å"with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit (Poe 1).† Each new facet of Usher’s personality revealed by the narrator further strengthens this feeling of dread. It is a fact that people seldom fear those things that they can clearly see and understand. So to make the story more intimidating, disturbing and horrid, the narrator makes it a point to stun the readers’ understanding by bombarding it with a range of sensations, fears and visions. The details provided by the narrator, like the gloomy and dark atmosphere in the house, the tattered and dusty furniture, and his dread that he has entered another world tend to build on a mood of awe, fear and expectation. Moreover, in case of Madeline, the narrator allows readers only an apparition like brief glimpse of her, as he conveys, â€Å"I regarded her with an utter astonishment not unmingled with dread (Poe 1).† The narrator exploits

The findings also indicate that life stage is as important as culture, and possibly more important than culture, in explaining the ethical perceptions of upward influence behavior. This involves the new discoveries or concepts from the research. The abstract is found on the first page of the research. It has the findings which provide the summary of the key components of the research. The abstract provides a short summary of the study. The purpose of the abstract is to allow the readers to decide if the study is of interest to them The introduction section of the research paper describes the gap in knowledge that is addressed by the research study. As the business world evolves from a nation-state focus to a global focus, managers who are proficient at understanding cultural differences should be more effective in exercising influence in culturally mixed situations. Research on how culture affects individuals' choices of upward influence strategies has been limited. This study provides a first step in the investigation of the interaction of age and culture on the upward influence ethics of managers. The primary goal of this study is to ascertain the interrelationship between life stage (age) and culture on the influence strategies employed by managers in order to identify compatibilities (or incompatibilities) in influence styles among age-culture groups. The literature review does not necessarily only include published research studies. It also may include published reports about issues related to practice or a description of a theory. A theory is a written description of how several factors may relate to and affect one each other. The factors described in a theory are usually abstract: that cannot be readily observed and immediately defined and recognized by everyone. The research report discusses a theory in its introduction section, the study tests and further explains the relationships proposed in that theory. The meta-category perspective is used in the research report. It is expected that the study will be based on this, and that is to examine some aspect of life events and perceptions affect the variables in the research. The

Metabolic Changes - Essay Example While discussing these changes, the expose will analyze the reasons why these changes take place. A discussion on metabolic changes will not be complete without a discussion on aerobic and anaerobic exercises. In this regard, this expose will discuss the differences between aerobic and anaerobic exercises and the types of exercises involved in aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Finally, this discussion will not be complete without a discussion on the physical changes that take place in muscle fibers during exercising. Martin identified the most visible change in an individual’s respiratory system during exercises as increased minute ventilation. In this regard, it is common knowledge that the body exchanges more carbon dioxide and oxygen during physical exercises than when at rest. In line with this, these changes affect the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system during exercises. Martin indicated that the changes were a result of increased supply of oxygen due to an increase in the tissue oxygen extraction and the delivery of oxygen by the arteries. In addition, Martin noted that there was increased transportation of the carbon dioxide to the venous side. During exercises, glucose and body fats use the increased oxygen in the body to form adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that produces energy necessary for cellular reactions in the body (Martin). Martin identified the ability of the heart rate to increase immediately during exercises. In this case, the consumption of oxygen is related to the cardiac output with the stroke volume, which is the amount of volume of blood pumped from one ventricle of the heart. Effectively, this increase is responsible for the increased heart rate during exercises. In addition, the heart rate increases due to the extra cardiac output that delivers oxygen to the exercising muscles (Martin). The extra cardiac output that delivers

Impacts of Green House Gas emission and Alternate energy Resources Research Paper

Impacts of Green House Gas emission and Alternate energy Resources - Research Paper Example The major contributors in increasing the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are the power generation units. Most power generation units utilize coal to generate power. Coal is the worst fossil fuel as it is packed with more amount of waste and less amount of energy. Natural gas is the most energy content and least waste among other fossil fuel resources. Coal burns with producing solid as well as gaseous waste. Major content of gaseous wastes includes oxides of carbon, oxides of sulfur and oxides of nitrogen. As the energy requirements are increasing, power generation units tend to burn more coal and other fossil fuels in the power generation units to meet the energy demand. As the amount of feed coal increases, the greenhouse gas emissions from the power generation units also increase. We can conserve energy to reduce the waste (Chu). Transportation also accounts for the greenhouse gas emissions. In some bigger cities, the number of cars is approximately equal to the number of perso ns living in the city. It means that every person is contributing in transportation wastes. EIA projects that world energy requirements will increase 56% by the year 2040. EIA reports that world current energy requirements are about 524 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu), however, by the year 2040, the energy requirements will increase by 820 quadrillion Btu.
